I am a descendant of Irish migrants who lived in Lochee and this is a vivid and fascinating depiction of what life might have been like when they first came over to Dundee. In researching my family history, I discovered that my ancestors from the late 1700s and early 1800s where from Tipperary, Ireland, but later discovered a notation in a box that they were from the area near "Dundee, Ireland". Because I do not see that any Dundee existed in Ireland, I am wondering if my ancestors were indeed from Tipperary, Ireland and moved to Lochee outside Dundee and were part of the encampment, "Little Tipperary" (the name I have also come across. To my mind, it seems like it would make sense that Irish Tipperarians would name an encampment Little Tipperary. Because the father had also been in the woolen trade in Ireland, it would make sense that he'd move to a textile-like area to work. His son, another ancestor, also married a Scot. All that to say, I was very interested in your article and perspective. I will check out the book you recommended too. ~Linnie AikensAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08392280972845556580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030692967135623861.post-85004659693857730542019-06-19T03:45:10.860+01:002019-06-19T03:45:10.860+01:00I am researching my Irish family who lived in Loch...I am researching my Irish family who lived in Lochee; this post is very helpful. I have two questions, if you don't mind: 1. The 1891 census lists their address as "Kier's back land." Would this be the back land on property belonging to someone named Kier? And 2. Which pub(s) do you recommend? :) I am staying one or two nights in Lochee next month (coming from America) for the express purpose of retracing my ancestor's steps.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030692967135623861.post-13801576220094057592018-11-05T16:04:23.881+00:002018-11-05T16:04:23.881+00:00Great article, this.
